Will Ferrell Biography & Life Story
John William Ferrell, popularly known as Will Ferrell, is a renowned American actor, producer, comedian and writer.
He established himself with the NBC’s episodes of Saturday Night Live. He starred in comedy movies like Anchorman: The Legend of Ron Burgundy, Talladega Nights, Step Brothers, The Other Guys and Anchorman 2. Along with Adam McKay, he had founded the comedy website named Funny or Die in 2007. He is considered as a leading member of the “Frat Pack” – a generation of Hollywood comic actors who emerged in 1990s and 2000s. The British GQ men of the year awards named him the best comedian of 2015. He has an Emmy Award and two Golden Globe Nominations.
He was born on July 16, 1967 in Irvine, California to Betty Kay and Roy Lee Ferrell Juniors. He has a younger brother Patrick. His parents separated when he was eight years of age. Will started with attending Turtle Rock Elementary School and later went up to Rancho San Joaquin Middle School. He attended University High School and was a kicker for the football team. He joined University of Southern California to learn Sports Broadcasting and joined the Delta Tau Delta Fraternity.
In 1994, Will Ferrell successfully auditioned for the top-notch professional comedy group of The Groundlings. He joined Saturday Night Live in 1995 where he continued for seven years until 2002. During his tenure, he earned a name for himself with impersonations, a handful of them being, George W. Bush, Harry Carey and Neil Diamond. He was the highest paid cast member of Saturday Night Live in 2001. He returned as a guest host in 2005, 2009 and 2012.
While he was hosting Saturday Night Live, he appeared for numerous movies like The Ladies Man, Austin Powers: International Man of Mystery, A Night at the Roxbury, Superstar, Dick, Drowning Mona, Austin Powers : The Spy who shagged me, Jay and Silent Bob strike back and Zoolander.
He appeared as Frank “The Tank” Richard in Old School, 2003. For his performance, he received a MTV Movie Awards Nomination for Best Comedic Performance. He appeared in Melinda and Melinda, soon after. In 2006, he starred in the Stranger Than Fiction and Talladega Nights. He starred in a number of videos and movies until 2015, some of them being commercial hits while others were critical flops. In 2015, he starred in Get Hard and Daddy’s Home. He reprised his role in Zoolander 2, in 2016.
As a voice artist, he has worked in animated television programs and movies including the TV Series The Oblongs, Family Guy, Mr. Saturday Night and Fifteen Minutes of Shame. He voiced the lead character in Megamind, a work of the Dreamworks Animation Films in 2010 besides appearing as President Business in the Lego Movie, in 2014.
He co-produced an HBO show called Eastbound & Down and is all set to appear as the executive producers of the show named The Chris Gethard Show.
In August 2000, he married Viveca Paulin. They live in New York City and have three sons.
