Virat has a cute nick name, Cheeku. He took birth in Delhi, India to a Punjabi family on 5th November, 1988.
He is third child of his parent, Prem Kohli and Saroj Kohli. Prem Kohli was a criminal lawyer and Saroj is housewife. Virat is younger to his brother Vikash and sister Bhavna. He showed his interest playing cricket at his age 3.

Being a team member of Under 19 Indian team, he performed excellently and showed his cricket skill in front of the world.

He got chance to play in List A team in 2006, 18th February.

His debut in first-class team was made against the Tamil Nadu team in 2006, November. Virat’s skill of playing was reaching different level after death of his father. According to his mother, Virat started to act in more matured way and took his each match more seriously. Soon Virat made debut at Twenty20 match in 2007.
