Later, he started playing professional football and was the running back for the Californian franchise of United Football League. He continued playing for the team for four years. However, following the failure of the league, he decided to steer his career path towards films and went on to become an actor.
Childhood and Education
John David Washington was born in Los Angeles in Toluca Lake. His parents, Denzel Washington and Paula Pearson were actors, which is why it was assumed that he too would become an actor one day.
He proved these speculations to be right when he made his debut into films as a child artist in 1992 in the movie Malcolm X.
He went to school at Campbell Hall School. As a student, he had proved his prowess in sports and was a letterman in sports activities like track sports, basketball and football. He later went to Morehouse College to complete his studies.

During his college days, John David Washington played football extensively and proved his mettle by breaking a number of records. This included a school record for 1,198 yards with an average of 5.6 yards and 9 touchdowns. Later, in his senior year he set another record with ten receptions in 69 yards.

Career in Football

He played with various teams before finally bidding adieus to the sport. In 2006 he was signed by St. Louis Rams as an undrafted free agent. However, they soon released him from this contract and took him back as a part of their practice squad. During the 2007 Offseason games, John played for Rhein Fire in NFL Europa.
Finally, he was chosen to play at the running back position for California Redwoods in 2009 to play in the UFL Premiere Season Draft. The team was a franchise of the United Football League and he played on it for four years. However, when the UFL wrapped up unexpectedly in 2012, his career in Football came to an abrupt end.
Beginning of an Acting Career
With no profession to fall back on, John David Washington thought of going acting way. He landed a role in the well known HBO series Ballers in 2015 and has become a household name with his character of Ricky Jerret.
