Isla Lang Fisher was born to Scottish parents on February 3rd 1976 in Muscat, Oman. She has four brothers and her and her family lived in Oman until she was nine months old while her father worked there for the United Nations. The family soon moved to Perth, Australia when she was 6 years old. However her parents separated shortly after that. Fisher attended Methodist Ladies’ College and Swanbourne Primary School. From a young age, Isla showed an interest in both acting and writing. At a tender age of nine, she had already started appearing in Australian TV commercials.

Her first job was to play the role of an extra in a lottery ad. She attended Methodist Ladies’ College and took part school productions and often portrayed lead roles. In 1992 she went to work on the teen drama, Paradise Beach (1993), which was about a group of young people from different parts of the world who settle in Australia in search of love, excitement and success. Right from 1994 to 1997 Isla Fisher portrayed the role of Shannon Reed on the Australian soap opera Home and Away. The show became very popular and so did Isla’s character. She tackled a lot of different issues in this show and became a huge star and garnered fans in Australia as well the UK. She also made an appearance as Mary Jane in 2002 Scooby Doo as Shaggy’s love interest. She played the love interest of Vinve Vaughn in the Wedding Crashers.

She played a role on the seven-part BBC drama Hearts and Bones (2000) and made appearances in Out of Depth (2000) and Attila (2001). However she got her first big international break as a movie actress as Shaggy’s girlfriend, Mary Jane, in Scooby-Doo. A role for which she garnered a lot of attention and which was critically acclaimed. She later appeared in the Australian comedy The Wannabes (2003) and the coming of age drama Dallas 362(2003). However it was in 2005, when she was cast as a nymphomaniac bridesmaid in Wedding Crashers, did she make a mark on the audience, easily stealing all the limelight from the comedy heavyweights Owen Wilson and Vincent Vaughn.
The performance won Isla the Breakthrough Performance Award at the MTV Movie Awards. After Wedding Crashers, Fisher appeared as Rebecca, a Manhattan party host, in London (2005).Her role in the highly anticipated Baz Luhrmann re-make of The Great Gatsby was noteworthy.
