Caleb Casey McGurie Affleck-Boldt, popularly known as Casey Affleck, is a renowned American actor and director. He started his acting career as a child actor and rose to prominence with the Assassination of Jesse James and Gone Baby Gone. He has more than 40 awards to his name, including the Golden Globe, BAFTA and Academy Award for Best Actor and a Screen Actors Guild Award Nomination.

Casey Affleck was born on August 12, 1975 in Falmouth, Massachusetts, United States to Christopher Anne Chris and Timothy Byers Affleck. He has English, Scottish, Irish, German and Swiss ancestry. His father worked with the Theater Company of Boston while his mother was an elementary school teacher. His roleplays constituted of imitating his father’s obnoxious drinking habits at Alateen meetings. Following his parent’s separation when he was nine, he learnt Spanish while travelling around Mexico with his mother and brother Ben Affleck. They were taken regularly to the theater by their mother and encouraged to make home movies.

They appeared in weather commercials and movie extras as their mother shared a friendship with a local casting director. He acted at numerous school productions while he was studying at Cambridge Rindge and Latin School. He moved to Los Angeles to pursue his acting career at the age of 18. He later moved to George Washington University to study politics only to settle at Columbia University for a period of two years.

He appeared as Kavin Bacon’s brother in Lemon Sky (1988) and as a young Robert Kennedy in the Kennedys of Massachusetts (1990). After moving to Los Angeles at the age of 18, his first movie was To Die For, which was released in 1995. He also appeared in Good Will Hunting (1997), South Boston, Chasing Amy. Throughout the next couple of year, he appeared in supporting roles in movies like Ocean’s Eleven, Ocean’s Twelve and Ocean’s Thirteen besides Committed and American Pie 2 among others. His first leading role was in 2006 in a comedy-drama Lonesome Jim. He also appeared in The Last Kiss, in 2006

In 2007, he got his breakthrough for his supporting role in The Assassination of Jesse James by the Coward Robert Ford and was nominated for Golden Globe Award, Screen Actors Guild Award and Academy Award for Best Supporting Role. The Boston Crime thriller directed by his brother Gone Baby Gone also contributed to his acclaim. He directed I’m Still Here in 2010 and lost career momentum to an extent as critics believe.

He acted in the Killer Inside Me, 2010 and Tower Heist, 2011 while voicing a character in 2012 animation ParaNorman. He also acted in the drama Out of the Furnace with Christian Bale. In 2014, he launched The Affleck/Middleton Project with John Powers Middleton. He appeared in Manchester By the Sea in 2016 and earned critical acclaim. For this performance, he bagged the Golden Globe Award, BAFTA, and National Board of Review Award for Best Actor and Academy Award for Best Actor. In 2017, he is all set to film The Old Man and the Gun.
