Believing that the family is the basic unit of the society and the nation, Dr. DPJ Abdul Kalam emphasized the importance of values inculcated by the family. Relying on his
own experience, he always pointed how the family and its environment could go on to shape an individual’s personality and ethics. For Kalam, family taught an individual the values of empathy and understanding and enabled a person to interact with other people in their first state of development. A good family, thus, helps an individual attain their true potential by encouraging them to do better. Some quotes are: “When a mother is happy, the family is happy. When the family is happy, the nation is happy”.
“Birthday- the only day in your life your mother smiled when you cried”.
“Let us sacrifice our today so that our children can have a better tomorrow.”
“We should not give up and we should not allow the problem to defeat us.”
“If a country is to be corruption free and become a nation of beautiful minds, I strongly feel there are three key societal members who can make a difference. They are the father, the mother and the teacher.”
